About Me

Jforrest-profile-pic.jpg
Experienced Legal Document Assistant & Notary Signing Agent

With over 20 years of legal industry experience — including nearly 13 years working inside Fresno Superior Court — I help self-represented individuals navigate legal paperwork with confidence.

My goal is to make the process less overwhelming by providing professional, detail-oriented document preparation services informed by years of real-world legal and court experience.

My Background

After many years working in law firms and preparing corporate legal documents, I spent nearly 13 years at Fresno Superior Court, first as a Probate Examiner and later in the Family Law Facilitator’s Office / Self-Help Center.

In those roles, I reviewed filings for completeness and compliance, assisted self-represented litigants with procedural requirements, and helped ensure court documents were properly prepared and organized.

That experience gave me valuable insight into:

  • the inner workings of the court system

  • common filing mistakes

  • procedural requirements

  • how incomplete paperwork can delay a case

I understand firsthand how confusing and stressful legal paperwork can be for people representing themselves, and I strive to make the process clearer and more manageable.

Education & Professional Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology
    California State University, Fresno

  • Paralegal Certificate
    Fresno City College

  • Registered & Bonded Legal Document Assistant

  • Over 20 Years as a Notary Signing Agent

In addition to my legal document preparation work, I have assisted individuals, escrow officers, and lenders throughout California with loan signings and notarizations for more than 20 years.

How is an LDA
Different from a Paralegal?

While Legal Document Assistants and paralegals both prepare legal documents, who they are allowed to work with is very different.

  • Paralegals work under the supervision of an attorney and cannot provide services directly to the public.

  • Legal Document Assistants work directly with individuals who are representing themselves and need help completing legal documents without hiring an attorney. An LDA offers a more affordable option for people who need professional assistance with paperwork but to not require or want full legal representation.

What is a Legal Document Assitant (LDA)?

A Legal Document Assistant is a professional who prepares legal documents for individuals who choose to represent themselves in legal matters. LDAs work directly with the public, helping clients complete, organize, and file court and legal paperwork accurately and efficiently.

In California, Legal Document Assistants are registered and bonded, and are authorized to provide document preperation services for self-represented individuals. While LDAs cannot give legal advice, we play an important role in helping clients navigate the paperwork side of the legal process.
